Setting up a root account in Ubuntu can be completed in just a couple easy steps.  Simply run the following commands:

$sudo -i

$ sudo passwd root

You will then be able to input your desired root password.  The server will request a sudo password, this is provided in your setup email.  Before using a root account on Ubuntu, we recommend you read through this article:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo

It contains valuable information regarding the root account and potential risks associated with using it.  Often times, it is better to use sudo to perform day to day tasks.
